Sunlight Visualization for Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

With our sunlight simulation, you can show your prospective buyers how sunlight enters your property at any time of day and on any day of the week. This feature is available in both our 3D models and exterior views in conjunction with Shadowmap. Learn more about the benefits for marketing your property in this blog post.

Illuminate Your Digital Twin
Our indoor sunlight visualization

Sunlight can also be visualized in our 3D models. You can control the direction of the light by setting the compass direction in your model. The more accurately you know the orientation of your building, the more reliable the displayed sunlight visualization will be. If you already have a floor plan of the building, it is often marked with a compass. However, if you don’t have a floor plan, it is recommended that you check the compass orientation during the LiDAR scan.

In the finished model, which your potential customers will then receive via a link, they can activate the sunlight simulation in the settings and adjust the day and time using the sliders.

Our outdoor sunlight visualization

For outdoor visualization, we work with Shadowmap. The visualization is done per address, so surrounding buildings are also taken into account. You can find the map in the object data overview for each object you have created. You can zoom and rotate the view as needed and, similar to our indoor sunlight visualization, also adjust the date and time.

How much natural light do you get in important rooms like your living room or home office? Sunlight visualization lets you see at a glance.

Let the sunshine in
What the visualization offers your prospective buyers

Thanks to our sunlight visualization, your prospective buyers can see at a glance how much light enters a property – crucial information that you can provide even before the viewing. This visualization is also important afterward, for example, during viewings in bad weather or in the late afternoon during winter. Generally, potential buyers often don’t know how a property’s orientation affects the amount of light it receives. A viewing appointment is merely a snapshot of a specific day and time. However, with a comprehensive, interactive sunlight visualization, you can display any day and any time.

This success is also reflected in real estate listings, as a study by our partner Shadowmap in collaboration with Willhaben demonstrates:

Shadowmap users spent 198% more time per visit to a listing with integrated sunlight visualization than users without this feature. Furthermore, users who checked a property’s sunlight exposure with Shadowmap in a listing generated 10.7% more inquiries than users without this feature.

Renovation & More
Sunlight is a Must

Visualizing the incidence of light in interior spaces is not only helpful for showing potential buyers the current state of a property, but also for highlighting possible changes. Especially in properties in need of renovation, this can illustrate the alternative of larger windows. Another example is attic apartments where the installation of skylights is being considered. Although it’s not part of your job as a real estate agent to visualize such renovations, prospective buyers are often more willing to purchase when they recognize a property’s potential. The legal aspects of the renovation are usually addressed after the purchase, and you can, of course, provide advice on building and housing law.

Another important aspect of renovations is interior design. As a space planner or interior designer, you can use the visualization of natural light to demonstrate how new furnishings or furniture affect the amount of light entering a room—for example, room dividers in larger spaces or creating an open-plan living area by removing walls.

In summary, our sunlight visualization offers a wide range of possibilities for better understanding natural light in a property. We are pleased to have Shadowmap on board as a reliable partner and hope you enjoy using our application.
